“Carry the Light of Inner Tapestry” Essay Contest

The HeartGlow Center is thrilled to announce the

“Carry the Light of Inner Tapestry” Essay Contest.

Are you ready to Carry the Light of Inner Tapestry?

YOU can become the new publisher of this beautiful holistic publication.

Originally founded in 2001 as a print publication, Inner Tapestry has reached hundreds of thousands of people across the world with its holistic wisdom. We have been honored to share the Light of thousands of talented writers, artists, teachers and healers. Now its time for us to pass the Light to another for its next incarnation. Instead of selling Inner Tapestry, we have decided to give it away to the winner of our essay contest. We believe this will allow the opportunity to be available to more people and at the same time, benefit our charity. All proceeds from the essay contest will support our 501c3 public charity and help us in our goal of building a Caregiver Respite and Bereavement Center in Maine. Contest registration opens March 1, 2017 and closes when we reach our maximum enrollment. The winner is selected by you, our readers! Please read the Frequently Asked Questions and Official Contest Rules below for all details.

There are only a few simple steps to participate:

Step 1: Register online to participate in the contest. You will be assigned a contestant number and given essay submission guidelines. Donation entry fee is $100.

Step 2: Once registered, submit your essay on “Why I want to carry the Light of Inner Tapestry” by August 31, 2017.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the registration period for the essay contest?

Registration opens on March 1, 2017 and will close on or before August 31, 2017. The contest is limited to 5000 contestants. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. The window to register closes when the maximum participant number is reached. We encourage people to register early to ensure they are able to participate, then take the time to write a quality essay and submit it by the essay deadline of August 31, 2017.

Do I need to submit my essay the same day I register?

No, you don’t. In fact, you must register first to take part in the contest and to save your slot. When your registration is received and verified, you are given your contestant number and final instructions on how to submit your essay by August 31, 2017. The registration period will close prior to August 31, 2017 if the maximum number of contestants is reached.

How many contestants can take part in the essay contest?

The minimum number of contestants allowed will be one hundred (100) people. The maximum number of contestants allowed will be five thousand (5000) people. If we have not reached our minimum number of contestants by August 31, 2017, we reserve the right to extend the contest until that number is reached. The registration period will close early if we reach the maximum number before August 31, 2017. We encourage people to register early to ensure they are able to participate, then take the time to write a quality essay and submit it by the deadline.

Can I submit more than one essay?

No, you can’t. There is a limit of one essay per person. If you are looking to “Carry the Light of Inner Tapestry” with a group of friends, colleagues, a partner or a spouse, each person is eligible to register individually and submit their own original essay.

Does spelling count?

Simply put, yes. This is an essay contest and your skill matters. You need not be a professional writer, yet you should put your best self forward in your submission. Much like an essay for a college application, having a friend or colleague go over your entry before you submit can be helpful and catch errors. Our selection committee includes professional writers, editors, and teachers, who will evaluate your submission.

Can my essay be longer than 1000 words?

No. It must be 1000 words or under. Essays not following the rules and guidelines will be judged accordingly.

Can you help me write my essay?

No, we can’t. This must be a fair contest to all participants, so no one person can have more advice or access than another. You are welcome to get assistance from your own friends, family, and colleagues, as long as they are not affiliated with The HeartGlow Center. Our Contest Coordinator, Debra Snyder, can assist you with any question or technical issue regarding the contest and submitting an essay.

Can I register a friend or relative for the contest?

No, each contest participant must register directly. If you believe your friend or relative is a great match for the contest, please encourage them to register.

I’ve written for or advertised in Inner Tapestry in the past, am I eligible to take part in the essay contest?

Yes, you are eligible! We encourage you to become a contestant. The only people not eligible to enter the contest are any past owners of Inner Tapestry and any members of The HeartGlow Center’s Board of Directors and their immediate families. In addition, you must be at least 18 years of age and also be a legal resident of The United States of America. Please see all official contest rules for details.

Why must I pay to register and take part in this essay contest?

This is a fundraiser for our charity. This contest will allow us to raise money for our charitable programs and pass the Light of the Inner Tapestry on to a worthy person. This is NOT a sweepstakes or lottery in any way. Your registration fee to participate is a non-refundable donation to our 501(c)(3) public charity, The HeartGlow Center. We are happy to provide verification of our credentials and encourage you to review all available information regarding our mission and programs.

Can I register first and pay later?

No. Your registration is only verified and you become a contestant once your donation and all required information is received. We do not accept payment plans.

Can I register and then pay by mail?

No. To ensure the fairness to all contestants, all registrations and payments are processed online, first-come, first-served. We do not want to risk anything getting lost in the mail. All payments are processed by Square, which ensures safe processing for all parties. Square securely accepts all major credit and debit cards.

What if I miss the essay submission deadline?

If you register as a contestant and miss the deadline to submit your essay, you forfeit your opportunity to take part in the contest. Donations received for the contest registration are non-refundable under any circumstances. You are able to deduct your donation to our charity according to appropriate tax laws.

How is the winner of the essay contest selected?

All verified entries received by the deadline of August 31, 2017 will be evaluated by our selection committee and ranked accordingly. The selection committee is comprised of The HeartGlow Center’s Board of Directors and recruited volunteers who cannot participate in the contest. The size of the committee will depend on the amount of entries we receive. The HeartGlow Center’s founding director, Debra Snyder, will act as the Contest Coordinator and will not be a judge. Each essay that meets the Technical Requirements shall be judged on the basis of: the quality of the essay, creativity, thought and the ability to convey their desire to Carry the Light of Inner Tapestry. The top ten essay contestants will be contacted by phone and asked to submit a one-minute video in support of their essay. The video and essay will be posted publicly on our website for vote by the general public during the month of November 2017. Contestants are encouraged to share their public contestant profile to encourage voting and support for their essay. The winner is the contestant and essay with the most votes. The HeartGlow Center hosts the contest, yet the winner is determined by all of you! We believe this is the best way to pass the Light of Inner Tapestry and verify the contest is fair and open to all.

How much is Inner Tapestry worth?

The opportunity is priceless. Originally founded in 2001, Inner Tapestry has reached hundreds of thousands of readers with its holistic wisdom. We have been running Inner Tapestry as a charitable program since it was donated to us in 2014. At the time of that donation its estimated value was reported to be approximately $60,000 by its prior owners, who ran it as a standard business and a print magazine in New England. The winner of the essay contest will decide for themselves how they will move forward…as a business, a charity, a blog, a magazine, a movement, for profit, etc. The winner will decide if they will monetize the publication and how. The options and opportunities are endless. We decided to hold the contest to pass the Light of the publication in benefit of the charity and also give the opportunity to those who may not normally get it.

So, if I win, what do I get?

If you win the essay contest, The HeartGlow Center will deliver to you all available archives of the publication in digital form to manage and honor as you see fit. You will receive the domain name “InnerTapestry.com” and control of social networking channels currently assigned to Inner Tapestry. We will point the domain name to an existing website with archives, so you can begin on day one…January 1, 2018. We will deliver archives, programs, and files used to create the publication, such as articles and images, on a laptop computer for you to keep. You will have Inner Tapestry’s “publishing rights” to what has come before and the new work you will create. Individual writers and artists retain their rights to their original works. You will not receive any land, business entity, office, writers or staff. Just as all prior Light carriers of Inner Tapestry, you will need to decide your own business model and fund your own future plans. A member of our staff will donate up to 40 hours of their time to help you with a smooth transition. We believe this is an amazing opportunity for a vibrant essay and a $100 donation to charity. How will you carry the Light?

Why is The HeartGlow Center giving Inner Tapestry away?

It has been our distinct honor and privilege to be the publisher of Inner Tapestry. We’ve loved the opportunity and are grateful to have connected with positive thought leaders and holistic teachers all over the world. The HeartGlow Center’s primary goal is to build a caregiver respite and bereavement support center in the lakes region of Maine. By holding this contest, we are able to pass the Light of a beautiful, holistic publication to another to continue and at the same time, raise funds for the respite center. We are releasing something amazing and powerful to create something amazing and powerful. When the publication was donated to us, we were asked to “Carry its Light” and now we ask the same of you. We believe the contest embodies the heart and spirit of the publication and is a better option than simply selling it to a buyer.

What if I have a question or technical issue?

We encourage you to read over the contest information thoroughly, as most answers are available on the website. If you still have a question, you may submit your question via our question portal online. Questions and answers are posted anonymously on our website for the benefit of all. If you submit a question, keep an eye on the contest page for the question and answer to be posted. In fairness to all, no one may have special access or unique information. Our Contest Coordinator, Debra Snyder, can assist contestants with any question or technical issue regarding the contest and submitting an essay.
